Artificial pearls
The history of artificial pearls in Izumi is said to have started at the end of the Meiji Period when French products were acquired and researched.
As a result of years of research, a type of artificial pearl was created using unique advanced technology nicknamed "I Pearl"
. The I stands for Izumi, where the pearl was produced and "
Ai" also means love in Japanese.
Around 80% of the workers who produce artificial pearls in Japan are located in Izumi and the export of these pearls is also popular. Accessories that use the pearls are well-known around the world as being handcrafted in Japan.
