Blankets
In 1885 the first blanket in Japan was manufactured in Izumiotsu.
At the time, cow hair was used to create the blanket but it would soon switch to cotton. Production soared during the Taisho era along with technological improvements.
Currently 98% of the blankets produced in Japan are made in Izumiotsu.
Even after establishing their position in the market, the industry is alive and well because of their pioneering spirit to continually move one step ahead of others with printing technology, for example, and the competitive edge acquired by the division of cotton spinning, weaving and raising.
There is no mistaking the fact that Izumiotsu is the number one town for blankets in Japan.
