Cotton products
The origin of cotton fabric in Senshu Osaka is said to be a cotton seed brought back and planted from the Tang Dynasty by Kouboudaishi Kukai as an envoy to China during the Heian Period.
Cotton has been prevalent in Japanese clothing since the Edo Period and was known as "Izumi Cotton".
In modern times, the cotton is weaved for a multitude of different uses including clothing, bed and bedding, industrial materials, sanitary cloths and small white handkerchiefs. The region is making rapid progress as a base for supplying materials for exportation to foreign markets and to meet domestic demand.
